Heatwave and our lack of sleep.

This heat has absolutely killed me. I’m not good when it is warm and neither is hubby (with him being ginger). I burn really easily and feel very sick if its too warm so I have been hiding inside most of the time. With Ellie being ginger haired too I’ve been worried about her getting burnt or heatstroke so she’s been hiding inside with me.

The first night of this heatwave was a normal night and Ellie ended up in our bed from abou 2am. We had the fan going because it was just too warm. That morning she woke up covered in red spots (prickly heat rash) from being with us in our bed and it being so warm so I decided as it was hot and I wasn’t going to sleep well anyway I would start trying to get her to stay in her cot all night.

I have persevered with this, I knew it would help seeing as im back at work in a week 😥, and so far for about a week she has been in her cot and not been sleeping with us. She still wakes up, sometimes every hour and usually it is just because she has lost her dummy and falls back to sleep quite quickly without being picked up.

The heat and the early mornings have meant that once the sun is up Ellie is wide awake and wanting to play, usually I would just put her in between me and hubby and wed both go back to sleep but because its been so warm Ive just been getting up with her…thanks 4am sunrises!! I cant blame her though because this heat is awful. Even at 7am its so humid!

Now time for me to brag a bit (😀). Last night I put Ellie down in her cot at 7 wide awake, something I don’t do often as she just cries until we pick her up. She waa unsettled to begin with but played with her Peter Rabbit teddy until finally 20 minutes later she settled herself to sleep with no crying or me having to go up to her. She has always wanted to be near us when she is sleeping so I feel like this is a huge achievement for my little girl. She then slept through until 11:45 when she woke up for her feed which I was pleased about as she didnt feed well yesterday again due to the heat. She seemed wide awake but fell back to sleep after 5ozs. Id only had half an hours sleep by then and gathered shed be up again by 2/3am as usual however she didnt wake up until 5:20. This means I got a full 5 hours of uninterrupted sleep…something I havent had in nearly 8 months!!

I feel like a new (still sleepy) person this morning! Im sure it was a one off though…

A x
