Wow. For me weaning felt like something I needed a degree in! So many mums/professionals had their own advice when it came to weaning and each one was different. I felt completely out of my depths and wasnt sure where to start. Is that how all parents feel when it comes to weaning?
We started weaning Ellie at 5 and a half months after consulting with a health visitor who said it may help with her cmpa symptoms. I wasnt given much more information and had no idea how to wean a baby who couldnt tolerate dairy. All the books I had read really didnt cover dairy free weaning and I felt completely on my own…again. As with everything, i searched instagram for other cmpa mums who had weaned and got lots of ideas that way. I also came across Annabel Karmel who sent me a copy of her baby led weaning recipe book which had some dairy free options i could try.
There was no right way for us to wean Ellie, we ended up doing a combination of spoon feeding and baby led weaning and a year later I still don’t really know what I’m doing.
The advice I would give at the start of the weaning journey:
**dont get disheartened if your baby doesnt try food straight away
**don’t feel like a failure if all you manage is pouches and not homemade purees
**there are some amazing blw ig accounts out there (ill try and add a few when im on the laptop) its okay to magpie their meals but they might like a little shoutout if you do 😉
**it doesnt matter if you bl/spoon/combination weaning as long as it works for you and your baby.
**Enjoy the process!! Make it fun 💜
